Dennis was on the swim team and percussion section of the band and orchestra....I guess that's the only place I know him.  Remember he was a good drummer and easy to get along with.

Dennis and I were in some classes together and circulated among a large group of friends that we had in common. Dennis had an outgoing personality and enjoyed much success at Schurz. Academically, he was very strong and was inducted into National Honor Society. Athletically,he was on several teams and excelled in swimming as captain of the swim team, setting a pool record for the 200 free-style, and was also captain of the  water polo team. He was in  very vigorous health and projected much  confidence and  optimism.

Dennis went to DePauw University for his bachelors degree and then onto Chicago Kent Law School for his law degree. After high school I lost direct contact with Dennis but heard from mutual friends that in the 1970's he was practing law and living in the far northwest suburbs.

In about 1990, I met Dennis again when both of our families were members of the South Barrington Tennis Club and we lived about a mile apart in South Barrington. His daughter Shannon was one year older than my oldest child , Carl, and was omnipresent at the Club as she honed her tennis game. She went on to the Barrington High School tennis team and won Illinois State Championships with her partner in doubles in 1994 and 1995. I was at several of her matches including the State Finals both years and watched her successes with Dennis and his wife along with other friends.

Dennis had two sons , both older than Shannon, Colin and Ryan. Ryan started a landscaping business which has prospered and grown and now both sons and Shannon work there. My household is on their long list of satisfied customers. A couple of years ago I played a doubles match with Colin as my partner and found that he has the athleticism of Dennis.

Dennis practiced law in the area of commercial litigation and related legal services. I saw him very ably represent clients before the South Barrirngton Villlage Board on several occasions on matters relating to real estate.

Unforunately, Dennis did not enjoy the vigorous health of his youth as an adult. In 1991 he suffered a heart attack which caused permanent damage which eventually lead to heart failure. In 1999, he received a heart transplant in time to save his life. I recall seeing him at a 4th of July community event a year or so  after his transplant and he still had not achieved normal strength at that time. His heart did hold up adequately but he later contracted lung cancer and died from that disease on January 14, 2007.

Mentioning the swim team...now I remember that Dennis planned a world's longest indoor ski jump....he put skis on the diving board and stretched a rope across the pool and out the far door.  We all pulled and he got the indoor record...which probably stood for many years. Outside the box!
