Beaubein

What have you been doing for the last 50 years?

Upon graduating from Schurz I attended the University of Tennessee on a football and music scholarship with a major of trombone and minor in piano performance. Two years lter I transferred to Michigan State and majored in Police Administration and Public Safety (the first university in the nation to offer a major in what is known today as criminal justice).

Receiving a VS from MSU I began a career in law enforcement as a police officer in Evanston and at nights attending the Ill. Inst. of Technology receive a Master's in Public Administration. After three years at Evanston I becam a special agent with the Illinois Bureau of Investigation conducting drug and organized crime investigations. In 1975 the IBI merged with the Ill State Police where I remained until retirement. While with ISP I worked as a state trooper assigned to Dis (Harlem & Irving) then Dist 15 tollway and for several years as a detective in a major case squad.

In retirement my wife and I enjoy spending time with our 4 yer old grandson, playing golf and residing at our residence in Arlington Heights and Mesa, AZ. I continue to work out at the health club and play the piano. Also in the few years I've been active in "O" gauge modeling railroading.

School Story:

My most memorable experience at Schurz was playing on the 1962 football team winning the City Public League Championship, playing at Soldier's Field twice. Over 90,000 people were in attendance when Schurz played Fenwick at the Mayor's Prep Bowl. To my knowledge no Schurz team has since taken public league championship.

The height of ambivalence for me occurred when I arried at Henson Park locker room with a duffle bag of football equipment, a trombone and ROTC uniform to much to the amazement of Coach O'Keefe and Sider as they were preparing us to play Austin. I explained to them I was required to march and play at half time. Needless to say after a brief conference between the coackes and cadre I was excused from marching & trombone derformance and partake in halftime locker room strategy.
