Started career with a firm in 1968 in downtown Chicago in real estate market research and land use planning. Joined another firm in the same field in 1971. Entered the field of commercial mortgage lending with a major lender in 1972;moved to a major downtown bank in 1974; joined a downtown mortgage banking company in 1975 and have since worked for several other companies including my own since 1992. Have financed all types of commercial real estate.
Married Elaine Sellstrom in 1973; lived in Chicago one year and then we moved to Glenview and lived there for 131/2 years. I took up tennis in 1974 and have been a very avid player ever since. Bought lot in South Barrington and had custom home built in 1987;still in same home.
With regard to education,I was awarded a four year Evans Scholarship to the University of Illinois, Urbana where I majored in Urban Planning with a secondary area of study in real estate finance.
In 1967 I joined the Illinois National Guard and completed advanced infantry training later that year with the US Army at Fort Ord in California. When rioting commenced in Chicago after the King assasination in April of 1968, I reported to my unit on the west side of Chicago and patrolled that rough area for several nights.Later that year, I was stationed in Grant Park to help control demonstrators at the Democratic National Convention. My life became much less exciting after 1968 as I worked as summarized above , married, and raised three children.
Because of my career in the commercial mortgage business, I had a keen interest in the the mortgage market collapse of 2007-2009 and have read many books relating to different aspects of that cataclysmic event.
I was also very active in zoning related politics in South Barrington, especially during the last 10 years of the housing boon which ended in 2006.

One of my remembrances was my evolution as a high school football fan. I did not start following the Schurz team closely until my junior year but I then developed a strong interest in the team and the sport comprehensively. In my senior year, I recall my first foray to see a suburban game was on a Friday night when Bill Benowicz,Bob Badal, and I went to Park Ridge to see Maine East host Hinsdale, the number one ranked team in the state. Later that year, Randy Neeb and I went to Winnetka to see New Trier host Evanston. I have continued this interest in high school football and have followed the state championship playoffs closely since their inception in 1974.What I have found fascinating about high school football is the fact that teams reflect the coaching philosophy of their head coach and tend to specialize , unlike the pros which strive for balance and, consequently, all teams play the game similarly. For the last two years, I have moved up to the press box where I have been a television play by play broadcaster and color commentator for a TV station covering local teams.
